$100M Leads

Alex Hormozi's $100M Leads (Acquisition.com, 2023) answers the question that follows a good offer: now that you can sell, how do you get enough strangers to look at what you sell? The book is a field manual, not a theory. Below are the principles distilled in my own words, plus why each one matters when you are actually trying to put money in the bank.

Attribution: these ideas are Alex Hormozi's, from $100M Leads. The phrasing and the "why it matters" commentary are mine.

1. A lead is just someone you can contact — an engaged lead is the only one worth counting

Hormozi separates a "lead" (anyone you have permission to reach) from an "engaged lead" (someone who has shown they actually want what you have). Raw contact lists feel like progress but rarely convert. The whole game is moving people from the first bucket to the second.

Why it matters: Vanity metrics like followers and list size lull founders into thinking they have demand. You don't have demand until someone raises their hand. Measure engaged leads, not impressions.

2. The Core Four — there are only four ways to get leads, ever

Every lead-generation tactic collapses into 4 channels:

The first two cost time; the second two scale with money. Warm outreach and free content are where the broke-and-unknown should start because they require no ad budget.

Why it matters: When growth stalls, founders chase exotic "hacks." There are no other channels. If a channel isn't working, you either execute it more, execute it better, or pick a different one of the four — you don't invent a fifth.

3. Give away absurd value first — the lead magnet earns the right to sell

A lead magnet is a small, complete solution you give for free that solves one real, specific problem. It both proves you can deliver and naturally exposes the bigger problem your paid offer solves. The mistake is making a lead magnet that is useless on its own (a teaser) instead of genuinely valuable.

Why it matters: Trust is the currency before money. A free thing that actually works converts strangers into believers far cheaper than any ad creative. Generosity is a customer-acquisition strategy, not charity.

4. The Rule of 100 — beat volume before you optimize

Hormozi's prescription for someone with no traction: do 100 primary marketing actions per day for 100 days straight (100 outreach messages, or one piece of content, or $100 of ad spend, depending on the channel).

Why it matters: Most people quit before they have enough data to know whether a channel works. Volume is what generates the data. You cannot optimize a thing you have not done enough times to measure. Consistency, not cleverness, is the early-stage bottleneck.

5. Lead Getters — stop being the only one who sells

Once your own four channels work, you multiply reach through other people. Hormozi names four "Lead Getters":

Why it matters: A business where the founder is the only lead source has a hard ceiling — your calendar. Lead Getters convert linear effort into leveraged effort. This is the bridge from a busy operator to an actual company.

6. Content formula: grab interest, hold interest, satisfy interest

Free content lives or dies in that order. A great hook with no payoff burns trust; great substance no one clicks on never gets seen. Hormozi frames it as maximizing value per second of attention.

Why it matters: Attention is the raw input to every free channel. If you can't earn and keep it, paid ads just let you rent attention you can't convert anyway. Fixing content fixes the cheapest channel you have.

How to apply this, in order

The throughline of the whole book: leads are a learnable, mechanical output of consistent action across a fixed set of channels — not luck, and not a mystery.
