Steps (general, verify for your state): (1) pick a state and a unique name; (2) file
Articles of Organization with the Secretary of State; (3) appoint a registered agent;
(4) get a free EIN from the IRS; (5) open a business bank account; (6) keep business and
personal money separate.
What we got wrong: founders treat "form the LLC" as step one. Often it isn't —
validate a paying customer first, then incorporate. Filing fees and annual reports are a
recurring cost you take on the moment you file.
